Background: PST of locally advanced breast carcinomas causes tumour shrinkage and down-staging, therefore, optimal circumstances for surgery.
Patients and methods: We treated 25 stage IIIA-IIIB breast cancer patients with PST (Doxorubicin/Docetaxel). Histological diagnosis (core biopsy) was available in each case. Tumour regression and cardiac function were recorded regularly.
Results: Five patients showed complete pathological remission. Instead of 19 mastectomies, only nine were performed and 16 patients underwent breast-conserving therapy.
Conclusion: Using PST breast conservation rate is improved.
