Aberrant expression of keratinocyte growth factor receptor in ovarian surface epithelial cells of endometrioma

Ovarian surface epithelial cells (OSEs) are considered to be the common source of endometrioma and epithelial ovarian cancer. The present study reveals that keratinocyte growth factor receptor (KGFR) messenger RNA was expressed in OSEs of endometriomas but not in those of normal ovaries, suggesting that autocrine KGF/KGFR and paracrine fibroblast growth factor 10/KGFR signaling loops may be involved with the proliferation in OSEs of endometrioma.

  • Effect of prematuration and maturation with fibroblast growth factor 10 (FGF10) on in vitro development of bovine oocytes

FGFs also have been implicated in ovarian function and follicle development as recently reviewed [23]. Among the members of the FGF family, fibroblast growth factor - 10 (FGF10) is one of interest since its expression was detected in theca cells and ovarian stromal cells in humans [24] as well as theca cells, luteal cells and oocytes in bovine [25,26]. In addition, the two main receptors of FGF10, namely FGFR1B and FGFR2B, are also present in oocyte and CCs [27] and are regulated by FSH, suggesting an important role in oocyte maturation [28,29].

  • Fibroblast growth factor-10 maintains the survival and promotes the growth of cultured goat preantral follicles

    2010, Domestic Animal Endocrinology
    Citation Excerpt :

In mice, FGF-10 is essential for the normal development of lungs, limbs, teeth, skin, mammary buds, the stomach, and the heart [13–18]. Expression of FGF-10 has also been found in the adult ovine uterus [19] and the bovine corpus luteum [20], and FGF-10 mRNA has been detected in human normal ovarian theca, stroma, and endometrial stromal cells [21]. In the bovine ovary, FGF-10 mRNA was detected in theca cells, oocytes of antral follicles, and in primordial, primary, and secondary follicles [7].
