Many studies have demonstrated that nobiletin possesses anti-inflammatory,1 anti-tumor,2 anti-oxidative,3 and anti-Alzheimer's disease effects.4 Recent studies have revealed that nobiletin also has cardiovascular protection effects, such as protection against cardiac hypertrophy,5 anti-platelet aggregation,6 inhibition of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation,7 and the production of nitric oxide (NO) in vascular endothelial cells.8

Recently, the physiological activities of NBL have attracted considerable attention, for example, NBL has been reported to exhibit biological effects including anti-inflammatory (Lai et al., 2008; Lin et al., 2003; Murakami et al., 2000), anti-tumour (Kohno et al., 2001; Minagawa et al., 2001; Miyata et al., 2008) and anti-dementia (Nagase et al., 2005; Onozuka et al., 2008) effects as well as playing a role in the prevention of postprandial hyperglycemia (Shen, Xu, & Lu, 2012) and hypercholesterolemia (Kurowska & Manthey, 2004). In general, the polymethoxyflavonoids are absorbed much more effectively and metabolized to a lesser extent than polyphenolic compounds (Manthey, Cesar, Jackson, & Mertens-Talcott, 2011; Murakami et al., 2002; Wen & Walle, 2006).

2014, Journal of Functional FoodsCitation Excerpt :Nobiletin also attenuated hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)-induced liver cancer cell metastasis by inhibiting adhesion, invasion, and migration via modulation of both ERK and PI3K/Akt pathways (Shi, Liao, Shih, & Tsai, 2013). Diet feeding studies with rats showed that consumption of between 2 and 9 mg of nobiletin per day was sufficient to have a significant anti-carcinogenic effect (Kohno et al., 2001). Nobiletin enhanced cAMP/PKA (protein kinase A)/ERK (extracellular signal-regulated kinase)/cAMP responses element-binding protein signaling in cultured mice hippocampal neurons and ameliorates Aβ-induced memory impairment in AD model rats.
