The reduced proliferative potential of the corpus epithelium of infected Stat3SA/SA mice was verified at the molecular level, whereby mRNA levels for numerous cell cycle progression genes implicated in gastric carcinogenesis, namely c-Myc, Cd44, and Ccnd2,34–36 were significantly reduced in the corpus of H. felis–infected Stat3SA/SA mice versus WT mice (Figure 4C). Among these cell proliferation markers, representative immunohistochemical staining for c-Myc verified the strong protein expression predominantly in the gastric glandular epithelium of infected WT mice compared with Stat3SA/SA mice (Supplemental Figure S1A).

2019, PathologyCitation Excerpt :Previous reports have shown a significant correlation between CD44, CD133 and ALDH1 expression and prognosis in primary gastroesophageal cancer.5 To remain consistent with the literature,24,27,48 CD44 and CD133 staining was considered positive if at least 10% of the tumour cells were stained. We noted a much higher proportion of ADLH1 positive cases than previous studies (only 5 cases were negative using a 10% cutoff); accordingly, we increased the threshold to 20% (positive result if 20% or more of the tumour cells stained).
