Risk Factors for Stroke After Carotid Paraganglioma Surgery
2023, Annals of Vascular SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Several factors have been associated with the risk of stroke, such as patients with Shamblin II or III type tumors, tumor size, vascular injuries, and carotid resection and repair.2,12,33 Other authors have raised concern for an increased stroke rate in patients undergoing preoperative embolization due to the potential accidental reflux of particulate matter into the cerebral circulation.30,34–36 However, several studies contradict this statement and report nondifferences in stroke rate between embolized and nonembolized patients.23,37–39
