Studies have shown that heterodimer formation between the BH3 region and Bcl-2 in Bax is vital in promoting apoptosis, and the BH3 region exerts antagonistic effects on anti-apoptosis proteins such as Bcl-2 [31]. Bax expression in lung tissue is significantly increased in mice with lung injury [32,33], consistent with our findings showing that Bax expression increased after LPS treatment.

During progression of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, caspase-3 expression was higher in high-grade than in low-grade lesions, whereas no such differences were detected for BCL2, MCL1, BCLXL, BAX, BAK, or caspase 6.19 An increase in caspase 3 expression during progression of cervical neoplasia could be related to the rise in apoptosis, which has been recorded with greater severity of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and squamous-cell carcinoma.20
