Integrin β6 modulates vimentin/keratin expression. Three oral cancer cell lines SCC9SN (A, B), SCC9β6 (C, D) and SCC9β6D1 (E, F) cells were plated onto FN (10 μg/ml) for 24 h, under serum-free conditions. The cells were processed for immunofluorescence microscopy using antibodies to vimentin (A, C, E) and cytokeratin (B, D, F). SCC9SN cells reacted strongly with the anti-cytokeratin (B) but not with the anti-vimentin antibodies (A). The SCC9β6 cells reacted very strongly with antibodies to vimentin (C) but not at all with antibodies to keratin (D). SCC9β6D1 stained with the anti-cytokeratin (F) but not the anti-vimentin antibodies (E).
